markets (including families and high school seniors and business customers), offering new
portrait and portrait-related products and services driven largely by technology relating
to digital enhancements, enhanced lighting, etc., and improving the overall customer
experience. In addition, capitalizing on our existing core competencies and leveraging
existing capacity, we plan to enter and ultimately build leadership positions in three
additional major photography markets."

- September 14, 2001 -- True Image supported an Earthquake Drill with
Paul Revere Middle School to test the Seeker mobile emergency database program. True Image
provides two mobile school information system tools to a dozen Los Angeles Unified School
District middle and high schools. Tracker, which runs on Palm OS handheld computers, is
used to keep account of students in school during normal operating conditions. Seeker,
also a Palm OS program, is used to account for, provide contact information on, and
release students in emergency situations. The Earthquake Drill at Paul Revere Middle
School provided the first test of the Seeker program in a simulated emergency situation.
The exercise proved so successful that a follow up exercise will be supported in November,
2001 where student injuries, parental contact and release will be simulated.
Seeker runs on any Palm OS device and Paul Revere Middle School (with a student body of
2000) is equipped with 10 Handspring Visor devices. Seeker also makes use of bar codes on
the student id's to facilitate quicker identification of students outside the school
proper. A Symbol bar code reader Springboard module is used as an attachment to some of
the Visor units to perform the scans. Students' names can also be put in using the Palm
devices' note pad and Graffitti or by simply scrolling to the appropriate student name and
selecting that name with the stylus. Each Seeker program is protected from misuse by
assigning individual teachers' account names and passwords.
-
- Once a student is found, they are put into a "found" classification. Those
students' parents or guardians can then be contacted from information within the Seeker
program. Once contacted and released, the students' classification is updated accordingly
with a single stylus selection. All Visor devices in use can be synchronized at the end of
an emergency and a composite list printed out; all via infrared ports.
-
- The Tracker program is a companion Palm OS based software program. Tracker provides
additional information on students' schedule, attendance record, scholastic record,
privileges, and photos. Tracker information can be accessed from within the Seeker program
via a single stylus
selection. Both Tracker and Seeker are designed to be quick and easy to use with no
information more than two selections away at any time.
Tracker and Seeker are available from True Image at http://www.schoolid.com
. Pricing for a Tracker school site license is $3595, including 5 Visor units. Seeker is
available for an additional $2595 at initial purchase, or $3000 if ordered later and
includes 5 Visors, two bar code scanners, and an infrared portable printer. This price
includes set up with the school's existing computer
database, and on site training.
-
- True Image has provided school id and photographic products to school systems since
1997. Visit them at their web site http://schoolid.com
or contact them at 619-225-0837.

- September 9, 2001 -- Pelican Software has been working hard on some
ideas to help you work with your publishers, and I think we have a good solution for you
to consider. We finally have a well-priced PDF solution for Yearbooks! We believe this
will answer most of the concerns put forward by publishers.
A British software program called JAWS PDF CREATOR will generate PDF Files like Adobe, but
at a much better price. We are able to offer this with Yearbooks! as an add-on for only
$20.00 per school. We will be able to include it on any sales of the program starting
September 1, 2001. This
program has been tested by our technical department and works extremely well with
Yearbooks!
Pelican Software is also evaluating an Adobe Acrobat Compatible (Full version) Plug In
which converts PDF Files containing RGB images to CMYK with the optional control to
maintain Text in BLACK.
-
- i.e. Schools would print to this 'Driver' and forward you PDF File(s). You would run be
able to run them through this Adobe plug-in and then have CMYK PDF's to then send to your
RIP.
Preliminary testing has shown this to be a very effective product. Our technical
department is still testing the full version and it's conversion abilities. We are taking
a Yearbooks page, and working through the entire process to CMYK. Results of this test
will be available later this week. The price for this plug-in as a one-time for the
Publisher should be under $300. If you are using, or planning to use the publishers
version of our software, this would be the only fee you incur.
-
- We at Pelican Software are excited by both of these applications. We feel they will help
you in working effectively with both the schools and the publishers. As always, we value
your support and welcome any feedback. Please feel free to contact Bob Winkler at
1-800-988-4880 or bwinkler@pelsoft.com.
